New releases

🧪 Learning Analytics

Following up our latest developments on course and cohort analytics exports, Learning Analytics dashboards are here!

Teachers can now monitor their students’ engagement and performance in learning activities at a glance. The dashboards are available on course level, displaying cumulative data of all FeedbackFruits learning activities within a course.

Two sets of dashboards are available:

  • Student Success: based on student competencies and skill progression over time. Ideal when using Competency-Based Learning and rubrics, within our Feedback & Assessment package.

  • Student Engagement: based on student interactions and activity within assignments. Find data such as completion rate, count and type of contributions.

What are the key benefits?

  • One consolidated view: One central place to gain an overview of how your course is progressing, no more going into each individual activity to get a sense of student success and engagement.

  • Identify outliers: quickly spot any students at risk or standing out from the rest of the group. Teachers can provide interventions when needed, and monitor progression changes throughout the course and semester.

How to use it?

To use the Learning Analytics dashboards, you only need to navigate to the Insights section within the FeedbackFruits Platform, and then to Courses. Once clicking there, you will be able to see the dashboard for the selected course. Depending on your FeedbackFruits package, you will be able to see either one or both of the dashboards (Student Engagement and Student Success).

Just like before, you are still able to downloads Learning Analytics exports by clicking on the button ‘Export all course data’ on the top right corner.

Why did we create this?

This feature was requested by our partners. One of the main goals of our Platform developments is enabling learning designers and teachers with resources and information that makes better teaching easy to organize. With Insights, want to empower teachers with data, helping them take informed decisions and facilitating the monitoring of their student progress, in the most visual, easy and quick way possible.

What’s the availability?
The Learning Analytics is released under Feature Flag and available upon request for Feedback & Assessment, Customized Pedagogy (if tools apply), Competency Based Assessment, and Teaching & Learning System partners. If you or your institution are interested, please contact your FeedbackFruits Pilot and Partner Success Manager or your main FeedbackFruits contact person.

Why did we create this?

We added this to allow making content more engaging and use means of expression that have become common nowadays.

What’s the availability?

Availability is currently still very limited. This is currently available only to teachers when writing instructions. Please let us know where you’d like to see this rolled out next!

⚙️ Group Contribution Grading improvements

What are the key benefits?

When GCG (Group Contribution Grading) is turned on, the top part of the Configurable Grading step now mentions and explains this. In addition we’ve added an easy access button to the configuration dialog in case you want to recall or tweak the rules during grading.

Why did we create this? We want to help teachers easily identify that this feature is turned on by showing it in the top part of the Configurable Grading step. This is especially valuable when it’s configured prior to deployment in class, for example by learning designers, and then adopted by an educator who might not be familiar with this feature, or how it works. The easy access button solves the problem of having to first go into the edit view, scroll down again, and enter the grading configuration to be able to recap or tweak the rules.

What’s the availability?

This is available to all users of the GCG feature (which is currently only available in Group Member Evaluation).

Improvements for teachers and LMS admins

Group Formation Tool: Publish to Groups to LMS for Moodle

It is now possible to publish groups from our Group Formation tool to Moodle. This can be done from inside the Group Formation activity, by clicking on the Publish to LMS button.

We launched our Group Formation Tool earlier this year, to help make effective groups automatically. Group Formation helps teachers easily create inclusive and well-balanced groups, aiming to enhancing group dynamics, learning outcomes, student satisfaction, and engagement.

We are excited to now support this feature in Moodle, alongside Canvas/Instructure, and D2L/Brightspace. Please note: after publishing the groups to the LMS, it won't be possible to modify them via FeedbackFruits anymore. It is still possible to edit them via the LMS.

This functionality will require an update to your environment's integration scopes. For group synchronisation with Moodle, please ask your FeedbackFruits contact person for more information about the integration and its availability.

Improved Activity Analytics

As part of our commitment to consistency and simplifying the user experience, we’ve updated our analytics availability across our tool suite.

We have divided each tool into modules - these modules are any step within the assignment, e.g. within Peer Review there’s instructions, submissions, given reviews, received reviews and grading. Modules are the components, or steps, that make up a full assignment.

Not all analytics were shown where they belong. For example, in Interactive Document, the Document module would show all analytics in the Statistics per active student module, while the Document module in Team-Based Learning did not show any analytics in this section.

The analytics available are specific for an individual module, so we want to show them in the module itself consistently within all tools. Likewise, the Statistics per active student module no longer contains specific analytics about the individual modules but instead the progress per student per module, which makes it easier to get an overview of the progress per student.

Having our analytics appear in a consistent and clear manner creates a more cohesive user experience across our tool suite (of course accounting for certain exceptions where needed, e.g. only certain modules have a Status column with chips like Completed).

What Changes Did We Make?

Some adjustments were made across all tools, whereas in other cases there were individual adjustments per tool. Please note - where applicable we've added before and after of the tools, but in some cases this was not applicable (e.g. in a tool that previously did not have status chips, there is no before to show).

Bug fixes

  • In Peer Review when a teacher tried to click the "View Submissions" button or the "View" button on individual students, and the student did not have any allocated students to review them yet, they would see "This student has not received any reviews yet" instead of the submission. This is now fixed.

  • When writing an instruction that has the text in between quotation marks (" ") and in bold, when saving the instructions, the quotation marks show as q" . This is now fixed.

  • Several critical dialogs, like the dialog to set up reviewing criteria, would not use all available screen space on small viewports like in many LMS’s. This is now fixed.
