Tool In Action
How this article is structured
This article walks you through the steps of an Skill Review activity, following the same flow as the tool itself. It will describe the process of setting up the assignment. This refers to what you can configure before the assignment is published, such as instructions, settings, deadlines, grouping, and grading rules. Students cannot access the activity at this stage. You can still edit some settings after publishing; however, once students start making progress, certain options may be locked to protect their work and data. Wherever this applies, the article will clearly note it.
Note: When you open a published activity, you’ll land on the Active Assignment view by default. To return to the setup view after publishing, click Edit in the upper-left corner of the activity.
You can see the article about the Active Assignment view of this tool here.
Accessibility
We're devoted to making our tools as accessible as possible for all learners - to read more about accessibility in FeedbackFruits tools, check this article: Accessibility: Within FeedbackFruits Tools.
Step 1: Instructions
Here you can see the instructions written when setting up the assignment. These can be changed by clicking on edit on the top right corner of the screen. Fill in your overall instructions for the assignment. Note that you will not be able to publish/save the assignment if you leave this field blank.
Collaboration Options
Directly underneath the instructions, you can select options for student collaboration.
When selecting student collaboration options, there are several configurations to choose from. Please bear in mind that collaboration options need to be selected before students participate in the assignment - once a student makes progress, the configurations can't be updated.
-
Individually.
Use this option if you want students to work individually and should be reviewed individually as well. All feedback provided to the student will be based on their individual skills and will only be visible to them.
-
As a group
Use this option if you want students to work as a group and should also be reviewed as a group. In this case, the students will be provided with feedback based on their skills as a group, with this feedback being visible for all group members.
-
Individually, show as groups
Use this option if you want students to work individually and be reviewed individually, but show within their group. This option allows for students to be displayed to the teacher in groups selected from the LMS. This collaboration option makes it easier for multiple teachers to work together in one assignment, and filter the students they have to review by groups. The two individual collaboration options appear identical to the student.
Step 2: Give Feedback on Students
In step 2, you can add your feedback criteria and explanation cards. When you press configure, you can create the criteria you want to use to give feedback to the students.
You can also create reusable explanation cards, which will save you time when providing feedback to your students.
You can choose between a rubric, scale rating or comment criteria. You can either manually set up a new one, or you can copy one from your previous assignments.
For more information on setting up a rubric or scale rating criteria click here.
For more information on copying criteria, click here.
Visibility: Choose when the students can see their feedback. You can set this to immediately, after certain date, or never.
Step 3: Received Reviews
Feedback-on-feedback: you can toggle whether or not students rate their reviewer feedback on a scale of 1 to 10, with optional written clarification.
Scheduling deadlines: As shown in the image below, it is possible to have a deadline for this section if you want to hold the feedback until release. This means that, instead of feedback being visible immediately, all the feedback will be released at a certain moment.
Grading
After finishing setting up the core of the assignment, it is possible to add the configurable grading module. Click here to learn more about how this grading module works.
