With configurable grading the teacher can add a certain value to a specific part of an exercise. In doing this, the teacher decides which elements of the exercise weigh more heavily within the total grading. The grade is automatically adjusted according to the applied percentages. The build up of these grades will also be visible in the LMS grade center/book.
As can be seen in the example below, the grade can now be based on the different steps students take to complete the assignment and the weight per criterion can be defined. Allowing for some criteria to weigh heavier than others.
Manual Grading Override
Teachers can manually override student grades in FeedbackFruits assignments.
The amounts of points earned per student can be adjusted in the final column of the grading table ('optional grade adjustment') at the bottom of the assignment. The changes can then be seen in the percentage of the overall grade.
Pass/Fail Grading
Teachers can choose to apply a pass/fail grading scheme to their assignments. In the Grading options under the Grades section of the settings page, select Pass/Fail as the grading type and set the percentage required for students to pass. This threshold can be adjusted later if needed.
Before publishing the grades, the amount of points needed in order to pass the assignment will be visible. Once published, students will see whether they passed, along with the normal breakdown of their grade. Teachers will be provided with an overview of the scores as normal, along with a column showing whether the student passed or failed the assignment.
Important when using Canvas:
When setting up a Pass/Fail FeedbackFruits activity in Canvas, the Canvas assignment must be configured to use points. Set the assignment to 100 points before publishing grades. FeedbackFruits will then send a grade of 0 points (Fail) or 100 points (Pass) to Canvas.
If the Canvas assignment is not set up with points, Canvas will not correctly interpret the pass/fail results and the “Published to Canvas” status may not update.
Recommendation:
Always set Canvas pass/fail assignments to 100 points when using FeedbackFruits.
If grades have already been published without points, change the Canvas assignment to 100 points and republish the grades.
Note: Some instructors prefer “0 points” in Canvas to reduce student confusion about points in pass/fail activities. However, for grades to sync correctly, points must be enabled in Canvas.
Automatic Publishing for Grading
Teacher can also set a future date for grades to be published automatically. After publishing the grades in FeedbackFruits, the grades will automatically be sent to your LMS. For the grades to be pushed to the LMS, it is important that you have enabled grading in the LMS. Read here how you can enable grading in your LMS.
Teachers can set a grading date by going to Grading options and clicking Configure under Scheduling & auto-publish grades, where they can select a specific date and time. It’s also possible to leave the date unset, which allows grades to be published manually instead.
