How to use and navigate FeedbackFruits toolpicker

Updated over a week ago

In this article, we will walk through the different pages and functionalities of the FeedbackFruits toolpicker.

When starting to use FeedbackFruits through an LMS, the first screen to open up is our toolpicker. In the toolpicker you can find different options to create FeedbackFruits activities, both from scratch and from a previously created activity.

The toolpicker is composed by six different pages:

  • Homepage

  • Shared libraries

  • Templates by institution

  • My library

  • Past activities

  • FeedbackFruits tools

You can browse through these by clicking on their icons on the navigation sidebar on the left side of the screen or via the homepage. At the top of the toolpicker, you can also use the search bar to search for any activity, template or tool just by typing its name there.

In the next sections, we will dive into each of the toolpicker pages and their possibilities.

Homepage

When opening FeedbackFruits, the toolpicker homepage will be the first page to appear.  Through this page, you can navigate to each part of the toolpicker, such as My library, Institutional libraries, Past activities, Start from scratch or Learning design community tools. To do so, you can just click on the page name or on the arrow on the right side.

At the bottom of the homepage, some highlighted Help Center articles are easily accessible to help users set up their FeedbackFruits activities.

My Library

On this page, users have access to their own personal templates, created by themselves. They can see when templates were created and where they are stored within their library.

Users can edit their templates at any time by clicking the notification labelled You can edit your existing templates and create new ones in the library, located under the My Library banner.

To use a template, simply click on it, and it will be ready for use. Copied activities can always be modified before publishing.

Institutional Libraries

In this page, you will be able to use activity templates that have been curated and managed by learning designers within your institution.

To edit your existing templates, click the notification labelled You can edit your existing templates and create new ones in the library, under Institutional libraries banner.

Additionally, a list of available assignment templates will be displayed. Simply click on a template to use it, and it will be ready for use. You can always modify the copied activities before publishing them.

To learn more about Institutional templates, please read here.

Past Activities

This page is the archive for all the assignments a user has created in the past. These activities don't need to be currently live or published to be stored in here. Within this list, users will see the name of the activity, when it was created, and in which course.

To reuse an assignment, you can just click on it, and the old setup will be copied over. Users can always modify copied activities before publishing them.

Start From Scratch

If you want to create an assignment from scratch, you will see all the FeedbackFruits tools available to your institution here.

If you're uncertain about which tool to use, click on the notification labeled Which tool should I use?, under the Start from scratch banner. This will guide you to articles that detail each tool.

To create a new assignment, simply click on your desired tool, and you will be directed to a new interface where you can set it up.

You will also have the option to copy from an existing template by clicking the Copy from existing button next to the Save button.

When you're finished, be sure to click Save. You should then see the new assignment on your course's assignment page.

Learning Design Community

Lastly, if you have the feature flag switched on, you will now see a fifth category in the toolpicker: Learning Design Community. This is the platform where you can discover best practice templates for tried and trusted use cases.

Within that category, you will find templates for learning activities and learning journeys.

These templates will consist of two types:

  1. Activity templates: Provided by the Partner Team – These templates cover common use cases.

  2. Learning Journey Templates: From our Learning Journey Library on our website (currently, the top 5 performing Learning Journeys will be included).

When you click on the Learning Design Community, you will be taken to a page where you can find all these templates. Unlike the regular flow, when you click on a template, the activity will not open directly; instead, you will access a preview. In this preview, you will see all the steps of the activity, along with a description of its contents.

From this dialogue, you can either go back to the main Learning Design Community page or decide to implement the activity.

Additionally, we offer rubric templates within the activity. You can access these in the Feedback tools (Peer Review, Group Member Evaluation, Assignment Review, Skill Review, Self Assessment). These rubrics have been developed in-house collaboratively with instructors and learning designers from our partner institutions.

If you decide to use the rubrics, you will be taken to a dialogue where you can preview, implement, and edit the rubric.
