A step by step description of how to set up a Skill Review assignment

Updated over a week ago

This article will guide you through our Skill Review tool and its possibilities. This article is written to help you to enhance your understanding of the functionalities of this tool.

After you have created a new Skill Review Assignment in your LMS or on the platform, you see the following screen.

After entering the edit mode, the instructional video about Skill Review will show. The option Use copy of existing offers you the possibility to copy another, previous assignment and its instructions and settings. This could save you some time when setting up your assignment.

Step 1: Instructions

If you click on change you will be able to choose from the following collaboration options:

  • Individually.
Use this option if you want students to work individually and should be reviewed individually as well. All feedback provided to the student will be based on their individual skills and will only be visible to them.

  • As a group
Use this option if you want students to work as a group and should also be reviewed as a group. In this case, the students will be provided with feedback based on their skills as a group, with this feedback being visible for all group members.

  • Individually, show as groups
Use this option if you want students to work individually and be reviewed individually, but show within their group. This option allows for students to be displayed to the teacher in groups selected from the LMS. This collaboration option makes it easier for multiple teachers to work together in one assignment, and filter by group the students they have to review. The two individual collaboration options appear identical to the student.

Step 2: Give feedback on groups/students

In step 2 you can add your feedback criteria. When you press configure, you can create the criteria you want to use to give feedback to the students.

You can choose between a rubric, scale rating or comment criteria. You can either manually set up a new one, or you can copy one from your previous assignments.

Step 3: Received Reviews

Finally, in step 3 each student will be able to read their own feedback.

As shown in the image below, it is possible to have a deadline for this section if you want to hold the feedback until release. This means that, instead of feedback being visible immediately, all the feedback will be released at a certain moment.

Step 4: Reflect on activity

Writing a reflection is a valuable step to end an assignment with. The student can for instance write a reflection on how the whole process of giving feedback went. This step can be added through clicking on the purple-circle-plus-button (at the end of the final step). The option of ‘Reflect on activity’ will be then visible (see images below).

In the image below, you can see that it can have a deadline, as well as a required length of words. There is also a description field in which you can specify what you want students to reflect on regarding the assignment. Students can start with this step when the teacher completed step 2 ‘Feedback by teacher’. Students can then begin writing their reflection on the assignment (even before having read the feedback yet).

Grading

Moreover, you can add grading to your assignment by clicking on the purple plus button on your left (if not already visible as the final step). You can configure how many points you want to give to each process of the assignment, like in the following screenshot. Finally, click Publish in the top-right corner of the screen.

This concludes the Setting up Skill Review tutorial.
