How to review student activity in Interactive Video?

Updated over a week ago

Pedagogical Value Video

This article explains what teachers see when an Interactive Video has been set up, such as how they can monitor students' progress, view comments and the answers to practice questions.

Student Progress Overview

When you open the assignment, you will see the overall student progress. This shows you how many students have started watching, the average percentage of practice questions answered correctly, and the total amount of comments. This gives you a feeling of how the learning activity is going.

Click on the three dots in the top-right corner of the screen to edit the video or download the video/navigate to the original source of the video online.

Note: the downloaded video will not include the questions and/or comments that have been added.

Click on statistics per active student for a more detailed view. In the detailed view, you see (for each student) if they have started viewing, marked themselves as done, how many practice questions they answered correctly, and how many comments each student placed.

It is also possible to export all the student data into an excel file. This file contains information concerning review ratings, review comments and grading. You can download this export by clicking on the 'export analytics' button in the overall student progress window.

Step 2

In here you will be able to see the video and some insights about the student engagement within this video.

In this step, the keyword insights feature will provide you with the most popular topics or words your students mention in a learning activity. This includes reviews, comments, and discussion threads. If you click on a word, you will see an overview of all the comments that contain this precise keyword. You can click on the comment and be driven to the precise context of the comment.

If you click on Open video, you will be able to watch the video and interact with students comments, question cards or discussion threads.

There are two ways to open an annotation (a practice question or comment): Click on a dot/text balloon on/above the timeline in de video or click the preview ( < sign) to the right of the video to see the overview of comments and questions and select one.

For more information on adding practice questions and/or comments, click here.

For multiple choice questions, you will see the distribution of answers. The tick mark next to an answer means that you indicated that this answer option is correct.

For open questions, you will see a list of all the answers that students gave. You also see the student's indication whether the answer was correct, almost correct, or incorrect.
Note: You will be able to see the names of the students next to their answers. Note that this is not the case for students, students will only be able to see a list of anonymised answers when you enable this during the setup.

Click ← in the top right corner of the screen to go back to an overview of all the practice questions/comments added to the document. You can sort this list on latest activity, location, most upvotes, or most comments. This way you can sort comments on what is relevant to you to know before the next offline contact moment. For example, discussing those comments that are upvoted most would be relevant when students have upvoted those comments that they don't understand or that they want to hear more about.

If you open a comment, you will see the comment and all replies. As a teacher, you can also upvote comments and write your own response to the discussion by typing in the text field below the comment.

Grading

If when setting up the assignment you enabled grading, then at the bottom of the assignment you will see the students graded according to that criteria. Once the assignment deadline has passed, you can publish the grades by clicking in the button in your top right 'Publish grades', and these will be synchronised in your LMS' Grade Book. Please see the screenshot below.
