Introduction

In this article, we'll walk you through how to set up Interactive Presentation from the perspective of a teacher.

Interactive Presentation helps make presentations more engaging by allowing you to add questions directly to your slides. Students can respond during the presentation, helping you check their understanding and encourage active participation.

How this article is structured

Setting up an activity follows three stages, shown at the top of the activity whenever you're in edit mode:

1. Build activity — get an overview of your activity and its learning steps.

2. Edit steps — configure the instructions and presentation.

3. Finalize activity — configure settings that apply across the activity, such as deadlines and grade weighting.

Everything below describes what you can configure before the activity is published. Students cannot access the activity at this stage.

Note: When you open a published activity, you'll land on the Active Assignment view by default. To return to setup, click Edit in the upper-left corner. See the Active Assignment article.

Stage 1 — Build activity

This is your starting point. Here you see every step in the activity in order and can shape the activity before configuring the details.

A default Interactive Presentation activity contains:

1. Instructions
2. Presentation

Once you're ready, click Next to continue to Edit steps.

Stage 2 — Edit steps

Here you configure each step individually. A Student preview is shown alongside the settings so you can see how the activity will appear to students.

Step 1: Instructions

Write the instructions students see when they open the activity. Type directly into the instructions field; the student preview updates alongside.

Step 2: Presentation

This is where you add and configure the slides students will interact with.

Add slides

Click Add slides to add the presentation you want to use. Once your presentation has been added, you can edit the slides and add interactive questions.

Adding question slides

After adding your presentation, open the slide editor and choose where you want to insert a question.

You can add:

• Multiple-choice questions

• Open questions

Questions can be placed between the existing slides in your presentation.

Multiple-choice questions

For a multiple-choice question, enter your question and add the available answer options.

You can also configure:

• Add timer — set a time limit for answering the question.

• Allow participants to select multiple answers — enable this if more than one answer can be selected.

• Show question — control when the question is shown during the presentation.

• Show results — display participants’ responses.

• Show correct answer — reveal the correct answer to participants.

• Attachment — add an attachment to the question if needed.

Mark the relevant answer option(s) as correct before saving the question.

Open questions

Open questions allow students to respond in their own words. You can add a question, attachment, timer, and, where applicable, a correct answer. If the question is opinion-based, the correct-answer field can be left empty.

Advanced settings

Click Advanced settings to control when different parts of the presentation become visible to students. You can configure the visibility of:

• Presentation slides

• Question slides

• Answer slides

For each option, choose when the content becomes visible:

• Before the presentation

• After first presentation ended

• After they attend a presentation

• Only during presentation

This allows you to control what students can access before, during, and after the presentation.

Stage 3 — Finalize activity

The Finalize activity stage contains settings that apply across the activity.

Deadlines

Turn on Deadlines to configure end dates for applicable learning steps in the activity.

Grade weighting

Turn on Grade weighting if you want to configure how the activity contributes to the student's grade. The current Interactive Presentation setup supports publishing the grade as either a percentage or pass/fail.

Once everything is configured, click Done.
