This glossary explains the key terms used in the Partner Dashboard and related dashboard exports. These definitions help clarify how activities, students, educators, dates, and periods are counted.
Activity status
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Active activity | An activity where at least 5 students have viewed it at least once. This is the main signal that an activity was used in teaching. |
| Inactive activity | An activity where fewer than 5 students have viewed it. This may include new, unpublished, draft, or abandoned activities. |
The threshold of 5 student views is used to filter out trial or setup activities created by educators.
Test vs. not test
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Test activity | An inactive activity that is linked to a test course, test environment, or has a title containing terms such as test, sandbox, or template. Active activities are never classified as test activities. |
| Not test | Any activity that is not classified as a test activity. Active activities are always treated as non-test activities. |
A test course is a course whose name contains terms such as test, sandbox, template, uat, copy, dev site, or practice site.
A test environment is an LMS environment whose name contains terms such as test, dev, stag, sandbox, or acc. The term account is excluded from this rule.

Started students (n_started_students) | Students with any recorded progress above 0%. This means they have started at least one step. |
Progressed students (n_progressed_students) | Students with progress of 80% or higher. This means they have substantially completed the activity. |
Completed students (n_completed_students) | Students with progress of 100%. This means they have completed all required steps. |

First deadline (first_deadline) | The earliest deadline set across all tasks or learning steps in the activity. This field is blank if no deadlines are configured. |
Course start date (course_start_date) | The earliest activity start date across all activities in the same course. This is used as an indication of when the course became active. |
Term start date (term_start_date) | The start date of the semester or term the activity belongs to, based on the institution’s configured term dates. |
