How this article is structured
This article walks you through the steps of an Self-Assessment of Work activity, following the same flow as the tool itself. It will describe the process of using the active assignment. This refers to what happens after the assignment is published and available to students. It covers monitoring student progress, viewing submissions, giving feedback, and reviewing outcomes.
Note: When you open a published activity, you’ll land on the Active Assignment view by default. To return to the setup view after publishing, click Edit in the upper-left corner of the activity.
You can see the article about Setting Up this tool here.
Accessibility
We're devoted to making our tools as accessible as possible for all learners - to read more about accessibility in FeedbackFruits tools, check this article: Accessibility: Within FeedbackFruits Tools.
Overall Student Progress
At the top of the assignment, you will see the Overall student progress overview. Click on Statistics per active student to see individual students' progress. Here, you can see the individual overall grade collected, if the students have read the instructions, handed in their work, finished the self-assessment, and finally if the students have read their self-evaluation.
Click on the headers in each column to change the order (ascending or descending) in which students are displayed. You can also click Fullscreen to pop out the full display of student progress.
The check marks under read instructions mean that that student has finished the step. The light green dot means the student has not read the instructions yet.
Under the Given Reviews and Received Reviews headers, you will find the completion status of each review for each student. If a student has completed the module, it will display ✔ Completed instead of a percentage.
It is also possible to export all the student data into an excel file. This file contains information concerning review ratings, review comments and grading. You can download this export by clicking on the EXPORT ANALYTICS button in the overall student progress window.
Step 1: Instructions
Here, you can view the instructions you wrote while setting up the assignment. You can edit them by clicking on the Edit button in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Submissions
Here, you see an overview of all the students who have handed in their work, and which students have not handed in their work. For students that submitted work, you see if they handed it in late or on time. If the deadline has not yet passed, you can click change deadline if you wish to change the deadline. If the deadline has passed, but you want students to be able to still submit their work, you can now grant individual deadline extensions for specific students. This can be done by clicking on grant extension above the download button.
All submitted files can be downloaded by clicking the download icon next to search icon. The submissions are in a zip file, the files in this zip file have a name in the format [First name Last name Student] Original file name.
To view a student submission, please hover over the student name or click on the file button. You will be taken to the following page:
Note: If the student submitted a video, you will see the video player instead of the document.
Plagiarism check (beta feature)
If you have turned on the Plagiarism check functionality while setting up the activity, here you will see the plagiarism results. Please see more about how to interpret the plagiarism check percentages here. Note that students will not see these results from their end.
This functionality is in beta and requires configuration from an LMS admin and FeedbackFruits. If you are interested, please inform your contact person or Pilot and Partner Manager at FeedbackFruits to guide you through the integration. Read more about FeedbackFruits and Turnitin here.
Step 3: Given Reviews
The active assignment of given reviews lets you track which students have completed their self-assessment, their overall progress, the average time spent on each review, and the total number of comments they've written.
To view a student's given review, simply hover over their name and click on it. This will take you to a new page where you can see the criteria and the feedback they provided.
Step 4: Received Reviews
Step 4 active assignment provides an overview of which students have read all their self-evaluations and which have yet to do so. It also shows their overall progress, the average time spent on each review, and the total number of comments they've written. To view a student's review, hover over their name and click on it. This will take you to the same page as the given review, where you can see the criteria and feedback they provided.
Grading
In this step, you have to access a comprehensive overview detailing the grades of each student within the system.
By default, the grading module is enabled, it will be visible after the last step. The image below shows what that will look like. By clicking on the arrow on the right or using the scroll bar at the bottom, the teacher can view the rest of the grade sections (from left to right). On the far right there is also an optional grade adjustment . This allows the teacher to add or subtract points for each student. Click on Fullscreen to get a better view.
