If your institution has isolated its FeedbackFruits/Canvas integration following the May 7th Instructure incident, we can help staff/learners access FeedbackFruits activities. This page explains how.
Two options, depending on your situation
There are two ways to maintain access to FeedbackFruits while Canvas is isolated:
- Direct links to existing activities: for courses already in progress
- Standalone access for new activities: a last-resort for education continuity, with trade-offs
Both are covered below. If you need help deciding what's right for your institution, reach out to your Partner Success Manager.
Option 1: Direct links to existing activities
We can generate direct links per course for existing assignments. These bypass the Canvas LMS login temporarily: students and instructors authenticate via email link instead. If your institution already has SSO configured with FeedbackFruits (common for Dutch institutions), that will continue to work as normal. (We are not setting up new SSO connections at this time.)
To set this up:
- Contact your Partner Success Manager and include integrations@feedbackfruits.com on the email. We'll generate the links for the courses you need.
- On our end, we'll disable API level links on your deployment to prevent notification emails from trying to route through Canvas (which will fail while the integration is isolated).
- Share the direct links with your instructors. They can distribute them to students as they see fit. (See the section below that you can forward to them.)
Option 2: Standalone access for new activities
We can enable standalone mode, which lets instructors create and run new FeedbackFruits activities entirely outside Canvas. Think of this as an emergency education continuity measure, similar to what institutions had to set up during sudden shifts to online education.
Before you go this route, understand the trade-offs:
This is a stopgap, not a replacement for the Canvas integration. Specifically:
- Standalone activities cannot be synced back to Canvas when you re-enable the integration. Grades, enrolment, and group data created in standalone mode stay in standalone mode.
- This means instructors would effectively be running two parallel setups: one in standalone, one eventually back in Canvas. That gets messy fast - we only recommend doing this for courses that did not yet use FeedbackFruits in Canvas.
- We recommend against broad institutional rollout. Standalone access works for a handful of urgent courses that can't wait. It's not designed to replace your LMS integration at scale.
If you'd like to enable standalone access for specific courses, contact your Partner Success Manager.
For instructors (feel free to forward this section)
While the Canvas integration with FeedbackFruits is temporarily paused, you can still access your FeedbackFruits activities.
If your course already has FeedbackFruits activities: your IT team or course coordinator will share direct links with you. You'll log in via an email authentication link (or your existing SSO if your institution has that configured), no Canvas needed. Your data and student work are fully preserved.
If you need to create new activities: ask your IT team whether standalone access has been enabled for your institution. If so, you can create activities that run independently of Canvas. Note: these activities won't sync back to Canvas later (no grade passback, no roster sync), so use this only if you need to keep things moving right now.
If you're unsure what applies to you, check with your IT team or course coordinator first.
Isolating or re-enabling your Canvas integration
For guidance on requesting isolation or re-enabling your integration when you're ready, see Canvas security incident – May 7th, 2026: option to isolate your integration.
