Introduction
In this article, we will walk you through FeedbackFruits' Rubric file upload tool, highlighting how it works, its limitations, and where you can find it.
Rubrics are often shared as files, such as PDFs, Word documents, or exports from an LMS. With the Rubric upload, you can upload a rubric file and let FeedbackFruits generate a rubric you can use in your activities.
How does it work?
Start by uploading your rubric file. The system will quickly convert it to a format compatible with FeedbackFruits, making the process simple and efficient.
After upload, the platform automatically extracts key details: the rubric title, each criterion's title and description, and the titles, descriptions, and point values for each performance level. This ensures all assessment standards and scoring details are captured.
You can then review and edit your rubric to ensure accuracy and tailor it to your needs before finalizing.
Once satisfied, save your rubric on the platform for easy reuse in future assignments or courses, streamlining your assessment process.
Before you start
Before uploading, check which file types are supported. You can upload documents, pictures, and spreadsheets:
- PDF, DOC, DOCX
- JPG, JPEG, PNG
- CSV
The quality and structure of your file affect the results of the AI extraction tool. Clear, well-formatted files give better outcomes. If there are errors or missing information, you can review and correct them on the edit screen before saving.
Changes made to your original file after uploading are not automatically synced. To update your saved rubric, re-upload the latest version of your document.
Where to find it?
You can upload a rubric file from several locations within FeedbackFruits. Below are three different methods you can use to import your rubric, depending on where you're working in the platform.
Option 1: From the Template library
- Navigate to My library from your main dashboard.
Click the Create new button located in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select the Rubric option.
Choose the option Upload rubric from file.
- Drag and drop your file into the designated area, or click to select it from your computer's file system.
Important
- If you already have multiple rubric folders in your library, the newly uploaded rubric will automatically be added to the most recent folder.
If you don't have any rubric folders yet, FeedbackFruits will automatically create a new folder for you with the default name Untitled folder, and your rubric will be placed there.
Option 2: From inside a rubric folder
Open a rubric folder from your library.
Click the Add rubric button within that folder.
Select Upload rubric from file.
Drag and drop your file into the designated area, or click to select it from your computer's file system.
Option 3: From within an activity (Configure criteria)
- Open the activity and navigate to the step in your activity setup where you configure assessment or feedback criteria.
- Click on Configure criteria to open the criteria settings.
Select the option Import rubric from file.
- Drag and drop your file into the designated area, or click to select it from your computer's file system.
After uploading a file
After uploading your file, you will be taken to an edit screen where you can check and adjust everything before saving.
Step 1: Review & edit
On the edit screen, verify that the rubric was extracted correctly:
Rubric title
Criteria titles and descriptions
Levels (titles, descriptions, and points)
If anything is missing or incorrect, update it directly in the editor.
Step 2: Save
Once everything looks correct, click Save.
Step 3: Use your rubric
After saving, you can use the rubric like any other rubric in FeedbackFruits:
Reuse it in other activities.
Select it when configuring criteria.
Tips for best results
Use files that have a clear rubric structure (tables or clearly separated sections).
If the file is a scan or image-based PDF, the extraction may be less accurate.
Always double-check:
Criteria-to-level alignment
Point values per level
Any copied descriptions that may be truncated
FAQ
Does FeedbackFruits sync changes from my file automatically?
No. Once you save the rubric, it becomes a FeedbackFruits rubric and will not automatically update if the file changes.
Is the extraction always accurate?
No. The rubric is created with help from AI, so it may need manual corrections. The edit screen will allow you to review the generated rubric before saving.
Do I need an LMS integration for this?
No. Rubric file upload is LMS-agnostic it works independently of any Learning Management System.
