In this article we will walk you through how to use Group Member Evaluation from the perspective of a student.

Step 1: Instructions

In step 1, you will find the instructions that have been set by your teacher and you will see the people that are in your group.

Step 2: Giving Feedback

In this step, your task is to provide feedback to yourself and/or your peers. You can give feedback to each of your group members individually.

  • Task Overview

If self-assessment is enabled by your teacher, you'll need to begin by completing your self-assessment before providing feedback to your group members.

You may have noticed that in the overview, the peers you need to review are marked as to be determined. To see your peers, click the Start Reviewing button, which will take you to your self-assessment page (or directly to the first peer review if your teacher hasn't enabled self-assessment). To view the next peer, simply click the Next button located in the top right corner.

After clicking the Next button, you’ll see a person icon with Peer Number X. Be sure to press the Start Review button, and your peer's name will appear. If it's an anonymous review, an anonymous identifier will be displayed instead.

You can also see a Compare and adjust your ratings (optional) line item. This screen provides an overview of all the ratings you have given, allowing you to compare and adjust them as needed. This is an optional step. It's recommended to use this feature after completing all reviews.

  • Provide your feedback

Click on the line item in the task overview or on Start Reviewing. The following screen is the review packet you will need to begin completing. Your teacher has established specific criteria to guide and support your review process.

To begin giving feedback, start by selecting ratings for each criterion and leaving a comment. Please note that you can deselect the rating to leave it blank. Your progress is automatically saved, and you can view it just below the name of the peer you're providing feedback to.

When writing a comment, please ensure that you click on the Post Comment button once you have finished writing your comment. Failure to do so will result in the comment not being posted in the system; instead, it will be saved until you navigate away from the screen.

After completing all required reviews, you can navigate to the Ratings Overview screen. This feature allows you to compare and potentially adjust your ratings, providing a comprehensive summary of all the reviews you've submitted. Presenting feedback in a side-by-side format offers a holistic perspective that may prompt reconsideration of evaluations.

Additionally, pink Self-assessment chips provide a convenient reference point for comparing your ratings with those of other group members. It's important to note that this step is optional.

Click on the Adjust Ratings dropdown to see peers in the next criteria.

This comparative view encourages a deeper reflection on your assessments, empowering you to refine and optimize your ratings as needed. If you wish to make edits to your comments, simply navigate to the individual review packets, click on the three-dot menu of the comment, and proceed to make your edits there.

When you are satisfied with your reviews, press done. You will be taken back to the Give feedback to yourself your peers task overview screen where you will receive a confirmation that this step is complete. This is an indication that you may now proceed to Step 3.

Step 3: Read received feedback

In this step, you are required to read the feedback you have received from your peers/teacher. This allows you to gain valuable insights, identify areas for improvement, and consider different perspectives to enhance your learning and development. If you are awaiting feedback, the step will be presented as shown in the image below.

Once your peers have completed their reviews of you, you can take the opportunity to read and reflect on the feedback you've received.

  • Browse received feedback

View Reviews navigates you directly to your review packet. The packet reflects all the feedback you have received from your peers/teachers.

Show feedback given to filter defaults to All Reviewers. This provides a consolidated view of all feedback you have received, enabling you to review all feedback swiftly without navigating multiple sections.

When navigating the Feedback section of the All Reviewers packet, you can hover over the ratings to view who assigned that rating. Additionally, New buttons indicate unread comments.

Click on the View Feedback button to access and review the feedback provided. All received feedback can now be conveniently viewed within your review packet. Look out for blue indicator buttons, which pinpoint areas requiring your attention.

  • Review, respond or upvote:

You may view ratings and comments view the review packet or the side bar. It is possible to respond to these comments or upvote them.

When you are done reading all the received feedback, your progress will be shown as completed in your review overview.

Step 5: Reflect on the Assignment (if made available)

If your teacher has added the step to reflect on the assignment, it will be shown at step 5. Students can start with this step when step 3 Give feedback to your peers is completed. When this is not yet the case, the step will be presented as shown in the image below.

When Give feedback to your peers step is completed, you will notice an empty reflection box.

Below is an example of a student that completed their reflection on their assignment. When the assignment deadline has passed (if there is a deadline), the reflection cannot be edited anymore.

Step 6: Grades

Finally, at the bottom of the assignment, the grade distribution is shown. These criteria are set by your teacher according to their grading rubric and show a breakdown of the different areas available to receive grading points, as well as their weight in your total grade.

When the teacher hasn't yet made the grades available to students, the grading section will be blank.

Good to Know

  • If your teacher has set deadlines, they will be reflected on every step of the process. If the deadline has passed, you may approach your teacher to request an extension.

  • If anonymity is enabled, the students work under a pseudonym, but the teacher can always see the student name.

  • Editing/Deleting your comment: You may edit or delete your comment at any time by clicking on the three dot menu. You are able to edit your comments and ratings right up until the deadline.
