Ratings redesign in Assignment Review and Skill Review

After this release, when a reviewer provides a rating for a student, they will now use rating buttons instead of the slider scale. From the student side, these buttons provide a color-coded visual representation that indicates the number of ratings: the color intensity increases with the higher quantity of ratings on that specific level.

Why we made this:

Enhanced data comprehension: Both teachers and students will be able to quickly see the overall results at a glance. This intuitive representation also allows for easy differentiation between ratings given by individuals themselves or by teachers.
Consistency across our toolsuite: This redesign is consistent with our Platform designs, specially in Competency Based Assessment Portfolios, where skill development is displayed similarly.
Alignment with Assignment tools redesign: In line with the redesign of Assignment tools, the changes to the ratings' system will eventually extend to Peer Review and Group Member Evaluation. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months.

Availability: These improvements will be available to all assignments created after 29 Sept 2023 upon release, without the need for additional requests. It applies to Assignment Review and Skill Review.

Multimedia improvements and auto-generated subtitles

We have enhanced our video processing capability. Now we are compatible with many more video formats, faster loading times, and the possibility to auto-generate subtitles.

How do the autogenerated subtitles work? When adding a video to Interactive Video, it will be as easy as navigating down to the ‘Subtitles’ setting, clicking ‘Configure’ and then select ‘Auto-generate subtitles’. Thanks to speech-to-text technologies, the subtitles will immediately appear at the bottom of the video, available in any language. Please note that it is not possible to edit them.

Why we made this: We want to ensure our solutions can properly support the increasing trend and high volume of multimedia content in the current education landscape. Therefore, during the first months of 2024, we are focusing part of our development on providing better multimedia experiences, including accessibility, ease of use and video format compatibility, amongst other matters.

Availability: This feature will be released under beta and it will be available to all users upon release, without the need for additional requests.

Improvements for all users

Improvements in grading modules: Ratings received from self-assessment

This is the last update on the redesign and refinement of our grading module. In this release, we are adding a new grading facet: Ratings received from self-assessment. This facet indicates the ratings a student has given themselves per criterion.

It will now be very easy for students and teachers to quickly compare the grading points of self-assessment against the ratings received from the rest of the reviewers in the grading module.

For teachers, there will be two columns under each criterion, one displaying the self-assessment grading, and the other the rest of the reviewers ratings. See the picture below.

For students, there will be a new grading facet row, which will display the self-assessment ratings. Right underneath, they can see the reviewer's ratings. When clicking on each of these grading facets, the grading breakdown will appear. See the picture below.

Note that the ‘Self-assessment’ setting must be enabled in the Give Reviews step in order for this grade to appear in the grading module.

Why we made this: We have made this modification to enhance the user experience, providing a detailed, comprehensible and accurate grading module that leaves no room for doubt. We aim to help students better understand their grades, and save time from teachers answering student doubts.

Automated Feedback improvements

We have significantly improved our Automated Feedback tool capacity. Now, we are able to support larger student cohorts in a smoother fashion, especially for the APAC region. Teachers will be able to see students data way faster and reduce their loading times.

Why we made this: In order to alleviate some of the data processing weight, we have made important changes from our front-end to our back-end. This way we can provide a faster and better user experience within our Automated Feedback tool, especially to those users who are part of larger cohorts.

Group synchronization refinement

We've upgraded our system to better handle group changes in the Learning Management System (LMS). Teachers can now easily identify and fix issues where students might end up in multiple groups unintentionally.

If changing groups through the LMS causes students to be in more than one group, teachers will get a warning message in the group window. This will help them quickly fix any mistakes when adjusting groups in the system.

Why we made this: Though this hasn't always been a regular problem, we've heard your feedback and addressed this concern. We want to maintain clarity and accuracy in managing student groups within the system. Now, teachers can easily find and solve these problems.
