After the teacher has turned on the student autonomy feature, students can now use Automated Feedback independently and configure their own criteria.
In order to use it:
First, navigate to the assignment.
The navigation depends on the set-up from the institution’s admin. The screenshot shows an entry in Brightspace.
Then, the student need to first upload a document.
Once the student has submitted a document, they can click on the view feedback button in the Automated Feedback module to begin reading feedback.
Once the document has been uploaded, and the student enters the document in Step 3, they can see their document with feedback in the sidebar and on the document.
Students can filter for criteria most relevant for them from the side bar
By default, the student see all feedback generated by all available criteria.
If they wish to filter for only criteria that are relevant for them, they can filter the feedback.
To filter feedback, first click on Filter and then More options in the side bar.
On the left side of this window, there is a list of categories.
Each of them contains a number of different feedback criteria that are reflected on the right side. Students can choose which criteria to select by checking the respective boxes.
In this case, the student chooses to only see feedback for Abbreviation introduction and Active voice. Once they are ready to continue, they can click on Apply to see the feedback reflected on the document.
Now, the student will see feedback reflected as filtered.
Students can reuse their recent criteria selection under Unsaved filter > Unsaved Automated Feedback Filter inside the Filter dropdown menu that is located in the side bar.
Students can save a filter of criteria to be reused in different documents
If the student wishes reuse the same configuration in different documents, they can save their settings as a filter by clicking on Save filter in the bottom left corner of the criteria configuration window.
After that, students must name the filter before saving.
Once it is saved, this filter will be applied to the document and stored under Saved filters in the Filter dropdown in the side bar.
NOTE: Currently, it is not possible to edit a filter. If the student enters More options to modify criteria configuration while a filter is selected, the changes are saved to Unsaved filter > Unsaved Automated Feedback filter. If the student wishes to save these changes to be reused, they can do so by saving a new filter.
Students can choose to see all feedback applied to the document
When a student clicks on All suggestions under Default filters in the Filter dropdown on the side bar, any filter will be removed, and all possible feedback will be shown.
The student can also see all feedback by clicking on Clear filter .
Ability to sort feedback
Students can now sort the feedback in their documents through the Sort dropdown in the side bar.
By default, feedback is sorted alphabetically by the criteria category. Students can choose to sort their feedback by Suggestions first or Statistics first.
When sorted by Suggestions first, feedback criteria will be sorted based on the number of suggestions. The criterion containing the most suggestions appears first.
Document statistics shows the document data for the following feedback checks: Reference count, Figure count, Table count, Document language, Table of contents and Word count.
