Within Peer Review and Group Member Evaluation activities, students can be assigned one or more peers to review automatically. Teachers can also manage these allocations manually by changing, creating, or deleting allocations directly from the activity.
This gives teachers more control over review allocations without needing to contact FeedbackFruits Support.
You can find the allocation settings in the Give feedback step while editing the activity:
Step 2 in Group Member Evaluation
Step 3 in Peer Review
Changing Automatic Allocations
When automatic allocation is enabled, open the allocation overview from the Give feedback step.
After clicking Change, the allocation method dialog will open.
The overview shows the students or groups assigned to each reviewer. Teachers can change an automatic allocation by selecting a different student or group to review.
Allocations can be edited or deleted directly from the overview, including allocations where feedback has already been submitted.
When an allocation containing submitted feedback is deleted, the associated feedback is also removed. Make sure this is intended before confirming the deletion.
Click Done to save your changes.
The allocation overview updates automatically when:
- A new allocation is created
- An allocation is deleted
- Feedback is submitted
- Submitted feedback is removed
You do not need to refresh the page to see these changes.
Manually Creating Allocations
To create all allocations manually, turn off automatic allocation using the switch in the top-right corner of the allocation dialog.
Students will no longer be assigned peers automatically. Teachers must create an allocation for each student who should participate in the review process.
For each student, select the student or group they should review, then click Done to save the allocations. You can return to the allocation overview later to add, change, or delete allocations. Students without an allocation will not be able to participate in the review step.
Optional Allocations
Optional allocations may be created when students move between groups after allocations have already been generated. These optional allocations are now visible in the allocation overview, allowing teachers to identify and manage them directly.
They can be changed or deleted in the same way as other allocations.
Group Set Allocations
Teachers can use group sets to restrict allocations in Peer Review and Group Member Evaluation. This makes it possible to create one activity for several group sets while keeping review allocations within or across the selected group sets.
This feature is only available when the activity is used through an LMS.
To configure group-set allocations:
Open the student allocation settings.
Select one of the group collaboration options.
Choose from the groups synchronized from your LMS.
Configure the allocation behaviour in the Give feedback step.
Once students begin reviewing, the selected group configuration can no longer be changed.
The available allocation options include:
Within the same group set: Students or groups can only be assigned to review others within their own group set.
Across different group sets: Students or groups can only be assigned to review others from another group set.
For example, when the collaboration option is Individually / Outside groups, students can only be allocated to students outside both their own group and their own group set.
Students Choose Who to Review
When Students choose who to review is selected as the allocation method, students can select the student or group they want to review after the review process begins. If multiple reviews are required, students select their review allocations one at a time.
The selection overview becomes available once the submission deadline has passed.
In the review overview, students select Choose review or Select, depending on the activity interface. They are then shown the available students or groups and can use the search option to find someone specific.
Students cannot select:
- Themselves
- Their own group
- Anyone excluded by the selected collaboration settings
When Review outside group is enabled, students first see the available groups and then the students within those groups. Only eligible students can be selected.
Incompatible Settings
The Students choose who to review allocation method is not compatible with:
Submitter anonymity, because students need to see names to choose who they want to review
Review as a group, because all members of a group share the same review allocation
The option will be unavailable when either of these settings is enabled. A tooltip will explain the incompatibility. Once students begin reviewing, teachers can no longer change the allocation method.
For more information about how students are automatically assigned to review their peers, see the related allocation article.
