Upcoming changes to the Settings across all FeedbackFruits activities

All activities in FeedbackFruits consist of a set-up or edit view for teachers, where they are able to determine how to best set up an activity and tailor it to the needs of their classroom. Examples of such settings include configuring groups and student collaboration, enabling student anonymity in peer learning activities or selecting the rubric of an assignment.

Over the past couple of years, we have expanded these settings across all FeedbackFruits learning activities, to ensure that teachers can set-up an activity by selecting the settings that best suit their use case. While the addition of new settings has resulted in increased configuration possibilities, this also potentially increases the time for teachers to find the settings that are most relevant to them.

Therefore, to provide teachers with the flexibility of all settings while retaining an easy user experience where the most important settings can be found, we are making changes to the Settings UI design across all of our FeedbackFruits tools.

New Settings UI Design

The new settings UI design will only apply to the set-up or edit view for the teacher. The activity view of teachers and student view in FeedbackFruits activities will remain as they are. The changes introduced will purely be visual, to improve the user experience and will not result in any functional changes on how settings work. This entails that all the current settings will be available, in both existing and new activities.

Specifically, the settings will be grouped into categories that match the parts of the activity that the teacher wants to adjust. These categories will, for the most part, be the same across all FeedbackFruits activities, to make it easier to recognize and find them.

In addition to these changes, the improved settings design will also include clear and concise phrasing describing what the settings entail exactly.

Example for Peer Review

This is what the redesign would look like for Peer Review with all the settings collapsed for all the steps.

When opening up all the setting categories for Peer Review, it will look like this:

Example for Group Member Evaluation

Within Group Member Evaluation, the collapsed version of the settings categories will show up as follows (for each of the steps):

In the meantime, for Interactive Study Material, there is a beta feature flag that we encourage you to try out, should you like a sneak peek of how these new settings will look across all activities. If you want to test this functionality you can contact support or our contact person at your institution to enable it for your account.

With these changes, we’re making sure that both new and existing users can set up their learning activities with confidence, by accessing the most relevant settings at the right place.
