What to do if Automated Feedback is not able to give you feedback?

Unfortunately you have not been able to receive your well-deserved feedback on your writing assignment. You must have worked hard on this, so let's help you out here! This article explains what has gone wrong and what a possible solution could be.

Why do I get an “error reading document” message?

Our Automated Feedback tool is driven by Artificial Intelligence which improves over time. Unfortunately, the format of your document is sometimes not recognized by our system.

Which filetypes does Automated Feedback support?

Our Automated Feedback tool supports different types of files. In particular, all of those that can be converted to PDF format. Here you have a list of all the supported filetypes:

  • PDF

  • DOC

  • DOCX

  • ODT

  • PAGES

  • PPT

  • PPTX

  • PPSX

  • ODP

  • KEY

  • ODS

  • TXT

  • RTF

How can I still get my feedback?

There is not one solution that could help, every document is formatted differently. Here are a few things you can do to increase the chance our system can read your document. Please bear in mind that this allows you to get feedback from our system, but this doesn't mean that this corresponds with the requirements your teacher has set for your assignment.

If the formatting of your document is not relevant for feedback, start by trying the following

  1. Remove any headings

  2. Remove any appendices

  3. Re-submit the document

Otherwise, please follow the following steps:

  1. Submit your document again

  2. If resubmission doesn't work, convert your file to a PDF and submit again

  3. If uploading a PDF doesn't work and you use a Mac device, try opening the existing PDF with Preview and "Print" > "Save as PDF", and re-submit with the new PDF file

  4. If the above doesn't work, try using a PDF converter
    (such as this one) to convert it to another PDF file and re-submit.
