This article will guide you through our Group Member Evaluation tool and its possibilities. This article is written to help you to enhance your understanding of the functionalities of this tool. 

To show you which settings you can choose when setting up the assignment, you will be walked through the edit mode.

The edit mode

To enter the edit mode, simply click on the three dots in the top right corner (next to the focus mode button).

Setting up

After entering the edit mode, you see two options in the top right corner. When you click Help with setting up, a link to our help center and a link to our support chat will be shown. Also, the instructional video about Group Member Evaluation will show. The option Use copy of existing offers you the possibility to copy another, previous assignment and its instructions and settings. This could save you some time when setting up your assignment. 

After you have written your instructions for the students to read, you can choose wether you want to make this an individual or a group assignment.

If you tick the top option, students will work individually and review individually. The lower two options make this a group assignment. With the first option under group assignment  you can let students work individually, but they will review each other within their group. The teacher can assign these groups. The second option entails that students have to hand in a group deliverable, and they review the work/people from the other group individually.

Feedback criteria

In step 2 you can add your feedback criteria. When you press add, you can either choose between a rubric (beta, feature flagged) or scale rating criteria.

When you see the following screen, it is possible to either choose the rubric (beta, feature flagged) or scale rating criteria. You can either manually set up a new one, or you can copy one from your previous assignments.

If you press create new scale rating criteria, you will see the following screen.
You can add another criterion and assign a scale rating to each one. Also, you can require students to write a minimum amount of comments. Simply tick the box. Press discard if you want to delete your criteria or done if you are ready to use them.

When you have set your feedback criteria, you have the option to set a deadline for when students need to have finished giving feedback. When you press settings, you have the option to add additional settings to your assignment. For the beta features, please see our articles in the help center here.  

You can select how many assignments the students need to review with required reviews per student and how the peers should be allocated with instantly assign all available peers.  

Read and reflect on feedback

In step 3, it is possible to choose if you want students to read and reflect on their feedback they received from their peers. If you want your students to write a reflection, you need to flick the switch. For this step it is also possible to set a deadline. In the settings, it is possible to select if you want to hold the feedback until release. This means that, instead of feedback being visible immediately, all the feedback will be released at a certain moment. It is also possible to select a required length of written reflection - for example a minimum of 50 words. 

When you have finished setting up the assignment, it is time for the students to get started!
