New releases

Portfolio Visualizations

To further empower educators in understanding and fostering student growth, we're excited to announce two new visualizations within the portfolio. These tools are designed to provide deeper insights into student performance and help identify areas where additional support may be beneficial.

The Line Graph offers a dynamic view of student performance over time. This visualization can display the average performance line, and you have the option to include all individual ratings in a scatterplot format. This graph is ideal for spotting overall development patterns and directing attention to where students might need extra support.

Complementing this, the Radar Plot provides an at-a-glance summary of a student's strengths and areas for growth. It visually maps out performance across multiple outcomes. While it's not intended for making definitive decisions, the radar plot is a valuable tool for narrowing down which aspects of a student's feedback and development warrant a closer look.

We believe these additions will make it easier to track progress, tailor support, and ultimately contribute to more effective learning outcomes.

Improvements for teachers and LMS admins

Modular activity analytics exports

With the current and future possibilities to add and combine more learning steps to learning activities, the analytics export would not always contain the analytics for these steps. This is now resolved, with a more structured and expandable export.

The main highlights are:

  • the first sheets are generic sheets for the entire activity, the task-specific sheets come after and are prefixed with the learning step number (e.g. 1. Analytics per student)

  • the Overall analytics sheet now contains structured overall analytics, separated per step

  • there is an Analytics per learning step sheet, which shows the progress for each learning step, per student

  • there is a Grades per student sheet, which shows the different facets that a student's grade is built up from. In case Group Contribution Grading is enabled, the relevant information is also shown here

  • step sheets like Allocations , Questions , Ratings etc have not changed except for the sheet name (the step number prefix)

  • step sheets with Analytics per student are split up per learning step

The majority of the exports will still feel the same, and for more specific exports like Team-Based Learning with a pre-work step and Give feedback steps the experience will be improved by having the exact same information in the export as the tools that the steps originally come from (ISM and GME).

Filtering in Group Picker within LMS

You can filter group sets and groups while setting up activities within the LMS.

This also affects how the toggle on the left for the full cohort (in the animation below, Wednesday Cohort) functions - if you have a particular filter applied (in the animation below, 20), the toggle will only apply to your filtered selection.

Improvements for students

Thumbs up/down with Acai Feedback/Reflection/Discussion Coach - EU Only

In the EU region, you can now react to feedback from our Feedback Coach with a thumbs up/down. We are collecting this information to improve the product - the thumbs up/down will only be visible to the voter and to our team.

We expect to roll this out to other regions in the future.

Rich Text Editor for Student Reflections

Students can now write their reflections using the Rich Text Editor β€” this gives them the ability to add emojis and formatting to their reflections.

Improvements for all users

Improved User Experience With AutoSuggest

When subtitles are already being generated and a user attempts to re-generate them, there will be a pop-up message on mouseover/click of the suggest button that lets the user know the subtitles are already being generated.

There will also be a message that auto-generating subtitles for YouTube videos is unsupported. Please note, a user can manually upload their subtitles for a YouTube video without issue.

Resumable Uploads

File uploads currently upload the entire file in one continuous request. This is very susceptible to internet/browser issues and has lead to frustration with users, especially when uploading large files.

We've now changed the upload pipeline to use the tus protocol, which uploads files to the server in chunks of 5MB. If any chunk fails, the app will automatically retry that chunk until it successfully gets to the server. This retry mechanism even allows resuming uploads after the browser crashes or internet fully drops out - simply upload the same file and the app will continue where you left off.

Some additional notes:

  • Pending (i.e. unfinished) uploads will be removed after 30 days

  • This won't make uploads faster by any noticeable amount, just more reliable

  • Large cohorts uploading files at the same time should be much less problematic with this pipeline, but peaks in upload traffic can still slow down overall upload speed

  • On top of the security already present in tus, we have taken extra measures to ensure users can only resume their own uploads
