Configuring Turnitin integration

Updated over a week ago

Before proceeding with these steps, please inform your contact person or Pilot and Partner Manager at FeedbackFruits to ensure a smooth and safe process. Also, please see our FAQ Turnitin and FeedbackFruits article for more information.

Introduction

Turnitin is a platform for detecting and preventing academic plagiarism. Integrating it with FeedbackFruits can provide an added layer of assurance that the content submitted is original. If your institution has a license with Turnitin, you can benefit from the integration between Turnitin and FeedbackFruits in the following tools:

  • Peer Review

  • Assignment Review

  • Self-Assessment of Work

  • Discussion of Work

  • Automated Feedback

Which Turnitin license (e.g.: Similarity, Originality, ...) do I need to integrate with FeedbackFruits?

Please reach out to your Turnitin contact person to find out which Turnitin product license does your institution have, and if it allows access to Turnitin Core API, which our FeedbackFruits integration relays on.

Configuration

To integrate Turnitin within FeedbackFruits tooling, please follow these steps:

  1. Verify your license: Ensure that your institution holds a valid license for Turnitin by reaching out to Turnitin support directly. Turnitin support should confirm that your license has API access and also provide you with your Turnitin institution's specific domain (this is not your LMS URL). We will need your Turnitin domain later. We are not able to complete integrations for licences without API access.

  2. Accessing API Key: Once you've confirmed your license has API access, navigate to your dedicated Turnitin application portal to generate an API key.

  3. Generate API Key: Once in the portal, go to the 'Integrations' menu section. Here, you can generate your unique Turnitin API key.

    1. Handle it with care! The API key is sensitive information. Always ensure that it's kept confidential and shared with FeedbackFruits through secure channels.

(Fig. 1: Navigation inside the Turnitin application portal. In Integrations you can generate your API key and secret.)

(Fig. 2: Adding the key name.)

  4. Domain Information: Alongside the API key, it's essential to provide your institution's specific Turnitin domain. This can be taken from the address bar when in your Turnitin Admin Dashboard or received from Turnitin support.

(Fig. 4: Copying the Turnitin domain.)

  5. Send the information to FeedbackFruits: Please send the API and domain information to [email protected], so we can enable the integration from our admin side too. Please include information about which environment you would like it enabled in, i.e production, test, or a particular subaccount.

After the integration has been enabled from FeedbackFruits' admin, your institution is ready to use Turnitin.

Turnitin set up and conditions: FeedbackFruits will use the same Turnitin set up and conditions that your institution has set up for their own Turnitin instance.

Please check this guide to read more information about how to use it from the teacher perspective.
