Insights feature

Use the insights feature to get an understanding of the keywords your students mention in a learning activity

Updated over a week ago

The Insights feature helps you quickly identify the most frequently mentioned words by students in their reviews.

Currently, it is available as a beta feature in Peer Review, Group Member Evaluation, and Discussion (on Work or on Topic), and Interactive Study Material (Video, Document, Audio) activities to all users. It is available in English, Dutch, French, and German.

Here's how the Insights feature works:

The Insights feature displays the most frequently mentioned words extracted from student contributions. Student contributions include reviews, comments, and discussion threads. Only content words (nouns, lexical verbs, adjectives, adverbs) are counted toward keywords. Function words such as pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions are not included as keywords. The number next to each keyword represents the number of reviews that contained that word.

For all tools listed above, keywords are directly available in the monitoring view for teachers.

In Peer Review and Group Member Evaluation, you can additionally access keywords extracted from individual students or groups' contributions in both “Given reviews” and “Received reviews”. You access them by clicking on the lightbulb icon in the progress analytics tables.

In the Given Reviews step, keywords are generated from reviews that students give to other people.

In Received reviews, keywords are generated from reviews that students receive from other people.

In both steps, insights are available for 3 levels:

  • individuals

  • groups

  • criteria

The availability for each level depends on the Student collaboration settings of your activity.
